Homeschool

Hello Parents & Students,

Welcome to a new year of learning about our faith! Our faith is all about our relationship with God. Building that relationship is a life long journey. During each year of Faith Formation classes, we hope that your friendship with God grows stronger.  As with any friendship, we want to know more about the other person.  Our classes are meant to help you know more about God and in turn learn more about the wonderfully, unique person you are.

During this year of homeschool you will be working with your parents and family to grow in friendship with God. Each lesson (or chapter) helps us to know more about the heart of God and his love and mercy for us. We hope that working together will help all of you to grow closer to God through Jesus, His son. We wish you all the best in this new school year and are here to help and support you in this journey of faith.

Lessons

All of the lessons that you need to complete can be found under the Classwork tab on Google Classroom. For each lesson, you should read the assigned chapter together and complete the activities in the book. Once you have done that you can complete the online Lesson Review using the Google Form for that lesson.  We will post the lessons by unit with a due date to help keep you on pace for the year.

Prayer

Each lesson usually has an Opening Prayer and Closing prayer service.  Please do not skip over these. Prayer is an important part of our faith.  These prayer services can help all members of your family join together for prayer.  We also invite you to pray the Hail Mary, the Our Father, the Glory Be, the Act of Contrition or any other formal prayer together to begin and end your time of learning.

Mass

Although you will not be coming to class each week, we do invite you to join us for Mass every Sunday (or Saturday evening) to be nourished by the Word of God in the Liturgy of The Word and by the Body and Blood of Jesus in the Eucharist.  Bringing your family to Mass is one of the best habits you can help them begin.  Mass is a wonderful way to begin our week by giving thanks to God and building our relationship with Him.
Mass Times: Saturday 5pm, Sunday 7:30am, 10am, 12 Noon

Curriculum

Grades 1-6 will be using Christ In Us from Sadlier Publishing. This particular series is done in a spiral method, meaning all grades will be learning the same lesson at their own learning level. So if you have a 3rd grader and a 5th grader, they will be learning the same lesson at their own grade level. This allows you as their parent and catechist to teach the lesson to them together, pray the same prayers together and then allow them to complete the work in their own books and online.  Grade 7 will start the year using One Faith, One Lord from Sadlier Publishing.  Grade 8 will start the year using Be My Disciples: Life in Christ Jesus from RCL Benziger Publishing.

Helpful Hints to Homeschooling

  • Create a routine - plan a time of day and week to do the lesson
  • Tune out distractions - put away devices, turn off the TV. If you want to create a peaceful environment put on some low music (Alexa, play Catholic Worship)
  • Begin with prayer
  • Learn, work and pray as a family - if possible have everyone work together.  Older siblings can help the younger ones with activities and prayer. If you have a child who will be making Confirmation or has made their Confirmation invite them to join in.
  • Incorporate what was learned into all aspects of your family's life. Faith isn't just a Sunday thing. Find ways to live what is being learned by volunteering together as a family, helping a neighbor, or doing something kind for one another.
  • We will add videos, prayers, activities and other ideas here for you to use and to help you connect what we learn to our everyday lives.
