Holy Week & Easter Schedule

Lenten Penance Service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church (Nutley)
Tuesday, April 16th at 7:00pm
Prepare for the joy of Easter through the Sacrament of Penance

Holy Thursday
Thursday, April 18th at 7:30pm
Mass of the Lord’s Supper
We celebrate the Institution of the Eucharist and the Priesthood as we pray and remember Jesus’ sacrificial offering of His Most Precious Body and Blood. Through the washing of the feet, we are reminded of Christ's call to humble service.
The Church will remain open until 11pm for Adoration and Prayer.

Good Friday
Friday, April 19th
Living Stations of the Cross at 2:15pm in the Church

Join us for a moving presentation that will help bring us closer to Christ as we meditate on the great love He showed for us in His most sorrowful Passion.
Led by members of our High School Peer Leadership Group and the St. Mary’s Youth & Treble Choir.

Passion of Our Lord at 7:30pm
During this solemn service, we listen to the Gospel of Jesus’s Passion, we pray for a conversion of hearts, and we venerate the Cross of Christ.

Holy Saturday
Saturday, April 20th at 7:30pm
Easter Vigil Mass
The Easter Vigil is the highlight of the ecclesiastical year. The lighting of the Easter candle in a dark church symbolizes Jesus, our only Light. That light is passed from one person to the next, as the candles of all the faithful are lit and the entire church is illuminated by candlelight.
We read from scripture about the relationship between God and his people. Two adults will be baptized and received into the Church and all the faithful will renew their baptismal vows. The Eucharist is then celebrated with a great sense of joy because of everything that Jesus has given us.
Easter Sunday
Sunday, April 21st
Mass Times: 7:30am, 9:00am, 10:30am (with Children’s Liturgy), 12 Noon

Happy Easter!

We hope that you and your family had a very blessed and joyful Easter!!!  In case you were unable to join us for the Triduum or Easter Sunday, we thought that we would share some highlights with you.

Holy Thursday

Fr. Tom washes the feet of 12 members of our Church as a
remembrance of Christ washing the feet of the disciples at the Last Supper.

The Altar of Repose where the Holy Eucharist is placed after the Eucharistic procession on Holy Thursday. Many people visited our church that evening as is tradition.
Good Friday

High School members of our parish recreate and led a reflection of the Stations of the Cross.  The Living Stations of the Cross were accompanied by the singing talents of our Treble Choir led by Bruce Mauro.

Holy Saturday - Easter Vigil

Fr. Rich lights the Paschal Candle from the new fire outside of the church.
The candle was then carried in to the darkened church and the Light of Christ was distributed to all in attendance.

Holy Week & Easter Schedule

Holy Week is my favorite time of the Church year.  It is a week that truly hits all of our senses.
Holy Thursday enlivens our senses of smell and taste as we celebrate the Last Supper.  Incense is used to sanctify the altar and the bread and wine at Mass and we receive the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus in the Eucharist.
Good Friday gives the opportunity to venerate and touch the wood of cross on which hung our salvation.
Holy Saturday brings us from darkness into light as we light our individual candles from the Paschal Candle as it enters the Church.
Finally, the joy of Easter Sunday can be heard in the shouts of Alleluia and the beautiful music that proclaims Christ's victory over sin and death.
We invite you to be with us on this journey as we celebrate the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
